Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

by ttplastadmin on 03/08/2010

The full abdominoplasty procedure, also known as a tummy tuck, provides powerful correction of the changes caused by aging, pregnancies and weight fluctuations in the skin, subcutaneous tissues and musculature of the abdominal wall. Through an incision hidden in the bikini line the bulging skin and extra fat are removed and the musculature is tightened. The goal is to perform body contouring to recreate a feminine, hourglass like shape of the torso with a very defined waistline, a slight protuberance below the belly button and definition of the midline.

It creates structure by reshaping the musculature of the abdomen. Without this reshaping, the contour would not be correct and the tightened skin would reflect a less than ideal shape. After repositioning of the musculature however, the skin can be draped over better defined “curves”. Strategical application of liposuction of the waists and hip rolls contributes to make  the curves smoother.

Abdominoplasty is an example of one of the most fundamental principles of cosmetic surgery at Trinidad Institute of Plastic Surgery – we first create the structure and then drape the skin over it. As sculpturers of the human body we do not believe in “skin only” procedures. The skin is just a glove adapting to any structure it is draped over. Structure is beauty. Beauty is more than skin deep.
